Svenska Polismäns Minnesportal.

Närmare 100 Svenska polismän har dödats genom våld och olyckor sedan 1900 talets början. Genom åren har dessa dödade polismän uppmärksammats sporadiskt i polistidningar och populärmedia - Ofta i samband med att en polisman omkommit tjänsten. Utanför Sverige är uppmärksammandet av de polismän som fallit i tjänsten mycket större än vad det är här hemma. Det finns minnesplatser, återkommande minnesceremonier och till och med dagar som är tillägnade fallna polismän i vissa länder. I Sverige fanns inget - Inte ens ett officiellt register över de polismän som omkommit. Det närmaste man kan komma är enskilda polismän som forskat på egen hand, examensarbeten av polisstudenter samt en memorial i Östersund som med plakat listar de polismän som mördats i tjänsten.

Som polisman vet jag vad polisyrket innebär och vad som krävs av oss som arbetar i den för de allra flesta medborgare helt främmande undre världen. Med detta som bakgrund tyckte jag det nästan var märkligt, för att inte säga dåligt att de polismän som fallit inte hedrades på något sätt - Efter viss tvekan med tanke på arbetsuppgiftens storlek beslutade mig slutligen för att göra någonting åt saken. Jag tog därför våren 2008 kontakt med Lennart Selling och hörde mig för om jag fick tillåtelse att använda mig av hans forskingsarbete till en minnessida på internet och på den vägen är det.

Almost 100 Swedish policemen have been killed through violence and accidents since the beginning of the 20th century. Throughout the years these policemen have been noticed sporadically through police papers and media - Often during occassions when police officers are killed in the line of duty. Outside of Sweden the appreciation for fallen policemen is much greater than it is in Sweden. There are memorial places, events and even days dedicated to honoring fallen policemen i certain countries. In Sweden there was nothing - Not even an official registry over the policemen that had died in the line of duty. The closes you could get was the research made by policemen on their spare time, the works of police students and a memorial in Östersund that lists the name of all murdered policemen on commemorative plaques.

Working as a policemen I know what it means to be an officer and what it takes to work in the criminal world of society that is so foreign for most citizens. Considering this I felt that it was odd, not to say poor that the Swedish policemen that had fallen was not honored in any way - After certain hesitation considering the ammount of work it would take I decided to do something about this. I therefore contacted the author of one of the more complete works of fallen policemen and asked if I could use it on a memorial page on the internet. And from there it is...
