1922 - 07 - 21 - Clas August Björkman
Incident: Fourthlingsman Clas August Björkman was shot to death in the line of duty the 21st of July 1922 in Flen, Sweden. A man who was recieving psychiatric care had been given leave from the S:t Anna's hopsital in Nyköping to visit his mothers estate inventory in Flen. The man owned several weapons and had in his house in Flen the 21st of July threatened a neighbour with a revolver. Police was called for and Björkman and acting police superintendand Marklund arrived to the scene. The man appeared in a window and shouted for the police to leave or he would shoot. When the policemen didn't comply the man opened fire with a shotgun striking Björkman in the chest. Marklund managed to drag Björkman from the scene to a car that transported him to a hospital. Björkman was dead on arrival. The perpetrators house was besieged by police, fire department and the shooters guild of Flen. The man surrendered the next day because, amongst other things, the fire department had hosed his apartment with large ammounts of water.
Perpetrator: Arrested, Man, 55 years old.
Notes: The man was considered to mentally deranged to be punished for the crime. He passed away 1935 in the S:t Sigfrids hospital in Växjö.
